## Prohibited signs in Anchorage

- All signs not expressly permitted by Chapter 21.12 are prohibited (21.12.010(G)).
- Roof signs are prohibited, except a sign may extend above the roof/parapet if no more than 20% of the actual sign area extends no more than 20% of the building height (21.12.080(A)).
- Billboards and other off-premise signs are prohibited; signs may not display commercial messages for products/services not offered on the property (21.12.080(B)).
- Signs or displays that conflict with Alaska highway advertising law are prohibited, including signs within 660 feet of interstate/primary/secondary highways visible from the main-traveled way, or beyond 660 feet intended to be read from the travel way (21.12.030; 21.12.080(C)).
- Portable signs are prohibited (21.12.080(D)).
- Flashing, moving, animated, blinker, racer-type, intermittent, revolving signs/devices are prohibited except as allowed under changeable copy standards; oversized tethered balloons, spinners, whirligigs, inflatable signs are prohibited; pennants, ribbons, streamers, and latex balloons ≤16 inches are only allowed when maintained in “as new” condition (21.12.080(E); 21.12.090(A)(1)).
