## Prohibited signs in Stamford

- It is unlawful for any person, corporation or entity to construct, place, install, alter, change, maintain, use or to permit the construction, placement, installation, alteration, change, maintenance, or use of any Sign contrary to or in violation of the provisions of this Section.
- No Sign shall use or be illuminated by lighting of flashing, intermittent or varying intensity, including, but not limited to, flashing, beacon, strobe, rotating beacon, chasing or zip lights.
- No Sign shall be illuminated by exposed tubes, bulbs or similar exposed light surfaces, or by exterior spot lighting or other illumination that would cause glare observable to a Residence District or hazards to vehicular traffic.
- No Sign shall include any visible moving parts.
- No Sign shall simulate emergency lights on emergency vehicles or traffic control signals or devices, or hide from view any traffic control device, signal or Sign.
- No Sign shall obstruct road or highway visibility, interfere with the safe and orderly movement of traffic, or otherwise pose a hazard to traffic.
- All Off-Site Advertising Signs are prohibited.
- All Roof Signs are prohibited except as expressly permitted under subsections G, H and L of this Section.
- No Pole Sign or Ground Sign, including its base, may exceed twenty-one (21) feet in height. This height limit shall not apply to Flags.
- No Sign or sign Structure above a height of three (3) feet shall be erected or maintained within fifteen (15) feet of the intersection of the right-of-way lines of two (2) Streets, or of a street intersection with a railroad right-of-way (the “Corner Visibility Area”), except a Sign support Structure not more than ten (10) inches in diameter if other requirements are met and the sign is at least twelve (12) feet above the ground.

## Signs exempt from permit in Stamford

- An application for a Zoning Permit must include an accurate plan showing the proposed location of the Sign on the property in relation to Property Lines, existing Signs, Principal Buildings, and other site improvements.
- Plans must also include an accurate elevation drawing of the proposed Sign and supporting structure or Building façade, showing dimensions, area, height, and position.
- A request to transfer signage rights in the C-C Center City District must be accompanied by plans, subject to Zoning Board approval, showing the intended location, number, size and design of the intended new signage.
- Administrative review and approval by the Zoning Board is required for alterations, replacement, and changes in content of existing Signs associated with transferred or unallocated signage rights in the C-C Center City District.
- Where a Special Permit has approved the transfer of unallocated signage rights (C-C District), the location, number, size, and design of all new wall and Ground Signs are subject to administrative review and approval by the Zoning Board.
