## Prohibited signs in Kenyon

- Signs and sign structures must be properly maintained and constructed of sufficiently permanent materials so as not succumb to deterioration from weathering. Unsafe, deteriorated, defaced or otherwise altered signs must be repainted, repaired, replaced or removed as necessary.
- Overhead electrical wiring for signs is prohibited.
- Only governmental signs may be erected or temporarily placed within any street right-of-way or upon public lands or easements or right-of-ways unless the council approves such location.
- A sign or sign structure may not be erected or maintained if it prevents free ingress or egress from any door, window, or fire escape. A sign or sign structure may not be attached to a standpipe or fire escape.
- Signs and sign structures not used for signage for 12 consecutive months must be removed.
- A sign that obstructs the vision of drivers or pedestrians or detracts from the visibility of an official traffic control device is prohibited.
- A sign that contains or imitates an official traffic sign or signal, except for private, on-premises directional signs, is prohibited.
- A sign that moves or rotates including electronic reader board signs, except approved time and temperature informational signs and barber poles, is prohibited.
- A sign may not display any moving parts, be illuminated with any flashing or intermittent lights or be animated, except time and temperature information. Displays must be shielded to prevent any light to be directed at oncoming traffic in such brilliance as to impair the vision of any driver. A device may not be illuminated in such a manner as to interfere with or obscure indoor signs that are visible from public streets.
- Roof signs, including signs that project over the eave line, are prohibited.
- A sign may not be erected, placed or maintained on rocks, fences, or trees.
- A sign that interferes with any electric light, power, telephone wires or the supports thereof is prohibited.
- A sign may not contain more than two surface areas or facings fronting along the public right-of-way.

- Real estate development project signs, subject to size, location, illumination and duration provisions.
- Farm product signs located on farm property containing a dwelling unit and related to farm products, merchandise or services sold, produced, manufactured or furnished on such farm, subject to size limitations.
- Church directional signs, no greater than 12 square feet.
