## Prohibited signs in Athens

- No person, firm or corporation shall erect or place any sign, obstruction or device projecting onto or over any public place or street in the Village without a written permit from the Board of Trustees.
- No sign shall project into the public right-of-way or be a hazard to traffic or pedestrians, obstruct doors, windows, ventilating systems, or fire escapes, or cause other hazards to public safety.
- Signs shall not be mounted on roofs or extend above the roof line unless mounted on a parapet wall which extends above the roof line; in such case the sign cannot extend above the top of the parapet.
- Internally illuminated signs are prohibited.
- No exterior sign shall be illuminated beyond two hours after the close of business or between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m. unless the premises is open for business.
- Any sign not in use shall be removed within six months after cessation of business.
- Off-premises directional and advertising signs must not exceed two square feet and must be approved by the Village Board.
- All signs shall be maintained in good condition.
- Signs shall not project above the highest point along the face of the building.
- Except for holiday seasons, grand openings and other special or temporary events (not exceeding 30 days), no sign shall include or consist of pennants, ribbons, streamers, spinners, or other moving, fluttering, or revolving devices.
- No sign shall contain flashing or neon lights.
- No revolving, moving, or animated signs shall be permitted.
- No permanent sign shall be erected on utility poles, trees, or other natural features of the site intended for other uses.
