## Prohibited signs in Fort Stockton

- No person shall install, erect, or maintain any sign nor contract for such service until such person has applied to the building inspector for a license to install, erect and maintain signs and until such license has been approved and issued.
- No license for the installation, erection and maintenance of signs shall be issued to any person nor shall any person install, erect or maintain any sign or medium of display or advertising, electric or otherwise, until such person has filed a surety bond in the sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) with the city secretary.
- No sign of any character, other than those specifically excepted, shall be erected on the ground or suspended from or attached to any building or structure until a permit for such work has been issued by the building inspector.
- No permit for the erection of any sign shall be issued to any person other than those licensed and bonded as provided in this article.
- No sign shall be altered, rebuilt, enlarged, extended, replaced or relocated nor shall sign faces by renewed or neon tubing be rearranged (when the value of such work exceeds twenty-five dollars ($25.00)), except upon the issuance of a permit by the building inspector. All work under such permit shall conform to the requirements of this chapter.
- Signs of any character which are not specifically provided for in this chapter may be erected only by special permission from the city council.
- Any nonconforming sign which is damaged or deteriorated to a point where its restoration cost exceeds fifty percent of its replacement value shall be removed.

## Signs exempt from permit in Fort Stockton

- Signs which have been erected in conformance with this chapter and with the zoning ordinance and which have been damaged by windstorm or other natural causes may be repaired without first securing a permit.
- The changing of movable parts of signs which are designed for changing, repainting of display matter, or repairing damaged neon tubing while a sign is in place shall not be deemed to be alterations for the purpose of requiring a permit.
