- No sign shall be placed or maintained on any property, building or other structure within the city except in conformity with this UDC.
- All signs must conform to the height limitation of the district in which they are located; the most stringent standard applies.
- All signs shall be located on private property and not on public property, public right-of-way, private right-of-way, ingress/egress easements, driveway and maneuvering areas, or utility easements, except as specifically allowed.
- No freestanding sign may be within 30 feet of the intersection of street right-of-way lines or where it would obstruct vehicular or pedestrian vision.
- No sign shall interfere with road or highway visibility or obstruct/otherwise interfere with the safe and orderly movement of traffic.
- No sign may be located on any property, building, structure, or fence belonging to another without the owner's consent.
- All signs must maintain at least five feet horizontal or vertical clearance from all overhead utility lines or guy-wires.
- All signs shall be outside of public or private rights-of-way or at least ten feet from the curb/edge of pavement, whichever is greater.

Sign Plan & Submission Notes for Canton

- No sign permit will be issued for multiple signs if there is an existing noncompliant sign on the property; that sign must be brought into conformance or removed prior.
- In commercial, office, industrial, and special use districts, signage for multiple businesses or multiple wall/monument signs may require demonstration of street frontage or conformance as per section 103.05.10.
- Temporary signs (other than those explicitly exempted in 103.05.11.A) require a temporary sign permit, are time-limited, and a permit will not be issued if previous violations exist.
- Nonconforming sign plans or appeals may require a hearing before the board of zoning appeals.
