Prohibited Signs in Southern View

  • No person shall place, maintain or display upon or in view of any highway any unauthorized sign, signal, marking or device which purports to be, or is an imitation of, or resembles an official traffic-control device or railroad sign or signal, or which attempts to direct the movement of traffic, or which hides from view or interferes with the movement of traffic or the effectiveness of an official traffic-control device or any railroad sign or signal.
  • No person shall place or maintain, nor shall any public authority permit, upon any highway, any traffic sign or signal bearing thereon any commercial advertising.
  • It is unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to disobey the instructions of any traffic sign or signal placed in view by authority of the Village Board or in accordance with the laws of the state, except on direction of a police officer.
  • No signs may be placed on the public right-of-way without the express consent of the Village Board.
  • Any signs placed in the right-of-way without consent will be removed by the village, held for seven days, and then discarded.
  • No advertising signs are permitted in any Residential District.
  • No advertising signs shall be located within 100 feet of the nearest wall of a residence located in a residence district in commercial districts.
  • No person shall sell or offer for sale any traffic-control device to be used on any street or highway in the village which does not conform to the requirements of the chapter.
  • Except as authorized with respect to nonconforming signs, all signs shall be in compliance with the provisions of the sign subchapter.
  • Except for employees of the Village Street Department, police officers, contractors and their employees engaged in a highway construction contract or approved work, it is unlawful for any person to possess a traffic sign, signal, or marker owned by the village.
