Prohibited Signs in Iron Mountain

  • No sign shall be placed, displayed, or installed upon property without the consent of the property owner.

  • The city manager or designee administers permit applications, but special conditions and variances require site plan or master sign plan review by the sign committee and/or planning commission.
  • All signs and permits regulated under this chapter are subject to annual planning commission review, and recommendations for modification are made to the city council as needed.
  • For signs within right-of-way for M-95 or US-2, State DOT approval may be needed prior to city application.
  • Applicants may be required to submit additional visual aids or professional reviews (e.g., architect/engineer sign-off, photographs, mockups, etc.) as determined necessary by city staff.
  • For appeals of interpretations, the zoning board of appeals is the presiding authority.
