  • Any new sign erected in violation of any Chapter of the City Code is prohibited.
  • Signs that might conflict with traffic control signs by shape, size, color, lighting or location are prohibited.
  • Exterior use of banners, streamers, pennants, flags, balloons, flashing/flickering/blinking/rotating lights, wind-operated devices, or other fluttering/flashing devices is prohibited unless otherwise allowed in this Chapter.
  • Signs placed or affixed to vehicles or trailers parked so as to be visible from a public right-of-way for the apparent purpose of advertising are prohibited (except permanent lettering incidental to the primary use of the vehicle or trailer).
  • Animated signs and signs with flashers, animators, mechanical movement or contrivances are prohibited, except clocks and time/weather information.
  • Paper posters and painted signs applied directly to building walls, poles or other supports are prohibited.
  • Signs painted or otherwise affixed on automobile windows are prohibited, except pricing information associated with the sale of new and used cars.

  • No sign may be erected or maintained so as to obstruct free ingress or egress to building openings, driveways, sidewalks or other passageways.
  • Sign illumination that interferes with public safety is prohibited.
  • Displaying obscene, indecent or immoral matter on any sign is unlawful and subject to immediate removal.
  • Permanent signage (other than allowable window signs and unless otherwise allowed) may not be constructed of paper, nylon, fabric, or other non-durable materials.
  • When a conforming sign’s business ceases for more than 30 days, the old sign face may not remain; the face must be removed/blanked and the structure maintained.
