Prohibited Signs in Argyle

  • It shall be unlawful for any person to erect a new sign, relocate, enlarge, or replace an existing sign, or sign face, regulated by this Chapter without first obtaining a permit from the Town, except where an exemption is provided for in this article.
  • No sign permit shall be issued until the user has a Certificate of Occupancy or has submitted application for a Certificate of Occupancy to the Town.
  • Signs and sign support structures must be kept in good repair and in proper state of preservation.
  • Signs deemed hazardous due to being structurally unsafe, pose fire hazard, danger to human life, inadequate maintenance, dilapidation, obsolescence, or abandonment must be removed, modified, or repaired.
  • It is unlawful to post, suspend, print, stick, stamp, tack, or otherwise affix, or cause the same to be done, any notice, placard, bill, card, poster, sticker, banner, sign, advertising, or other device intended to attract attention to, over, or upon any street right-of-way (including the parkway except for address signs), rights-of-way amenities (bus shelters, public benches, transit station, trash receptacles, directional kiosk), public sidewalk, curb (except house numbers), lamppost, hydrant, tree, electric light pole, telephone pole, telegraph pole, fixture of government/public service/alarm/telephone systems, or any public building/utility.
  • It is unlawful to post or affix signs onto private property without documented written consent from the owner, agent, or occupant.
