Prohibited Signs in Pensacola

  • No electrical fences or fences with cutting edges, including razor, ribbon, or concertina wire, are permitted within the city, except for interior wildlife sanctuaries as specifically allowed.
  • No person, organization, or agent shall cut down, destroy, undertake tree removal, or effectively destroy through damaging, any protected tree (see applicable lists/sections) on private property or right-of-way, without first obtaining a permit from the city.
  • Major recreational equipment (e.g. RVs, boats) shall not be parked or stored on public right-of-way, used for living or housekeeping while stored, or used for unauthorized storage purposes.
  • Large commercial vehicles are prohibited from parking or being stored in residential right-of-way except as provided for temporary loading/unloading.
  • Parking or storage of major recreational equipment is not allowed on a vacant lot unless it adjoins a lot with a principal structure under the same ownership.
  • Major recreational equipment may not be parked or stored on a parking lot for the purpose of display/sale except where such sales are an authorized use.
  • No boathouse shall be used for living quarters; usage is confined to housing boating and related equipment.
  • No accessory structure shall be used for activities not permitted in the zoning district except as specifically noted.
  • No alteration or change to the outside appearance, character, or use of the building or premises, or other visible evidence of the conduct of a home occupation (including outside storage or signs pertaining to the home occupation), is allowed.
  • No person other than a member of the family residing on the premises shall be employed in a home occupation at the premises.
  • No equipment or process in home occupation shall create prolonged noise, vibration, heat, glare, fumes, dust, odors, or electrical interference detectable outside the dwelling.
  • No home occupation shall be permitted that involves visitation of clients, customers, or suppliers generating more than two vehicles concurrently or more than twelve vehicles per day.
  • No home occupation is permitted that involves activities regulated by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; produces hazardous wastes regulated by the EPA or state DEP; has more than two beauty/barber chairs; group instruction of more than two students at a time; outdoor repair shops; taxi/limousine service; sales of food/drink on premises; retail not in compliance with home occupation section; sales, service, or repair of motorized vehicles.
  • Parking or storage of large commercial vehicles is not permitted on residential premises except in a garage or enclosed accessory structure. Such vehicles shall not be used for living, sleeping, or housekeeping purposes, must not be connected to utilities, and must be properly licensed.
  • No sign of any kind other than signs designating entrances, exits, and conditions of use (max 20 sq. ft.) may be maintained on a nonresidential parking lot in a residential zone.
  • All opaque fences must comply with the required visibility triangle; exceptions are provided only as specified.
  • No concrete block or barbed wire fences are permitted in historic and preservation zoning districts. Chain-link fences are allowed in limited cases and must have board approval.

  • Detached single-family and duplex residential development proposals are exempt from the gateway redevelopment district provisions and instead must follow R-1A regulations (except height).
