Prohibited Signs in Lake Charles

  • No person shall develop, install, locate or construct any sign in any district in the City of Lake Charles except as expressly authorized in this section and in conformance with all other ordinances of the city.
  • The requirements of this section (sign regulations) shall not be varied or modified by any development approval granted under the provisions of this Ordinance, except as expressly authorized by Section 24-4-206 for continuation of nonconformities.
  • Only monument signs or wall signs are permitted. Monument signs must be monolithic construction with base/support of uniform composition and affixed to the ground with no visible posts or supports.
  • No portion of any sign or sign structure shall be located within five feet of the street right-of-way line or ten feet from the street edge, whichever is greater.
  • No portion of any sign or sign structure shall be located over a city utility within an easement outside of the street right-of-way, unless approved by Planning and Public Works and subject to removal requirements.
  • No portion of any sign shall be located within any required sight triangle, nor installed in a way that creates a traffic hazard.
  • Signs mounted on or integrated into a building façade shall not extend above the top of the façade and shall not exceed 50% of the façade area; they shall not project more than one foot beyond the building face toward any public street.
  • Portable signs for commercial purposes are generally prohibited, except as provided under Section 18-8.1 and limited by permit.
  • No sign or sign structure shall exceed ten feet in height, except within interstate highway corridors where the maximum height is 15 feet.
