Prohibited Signs in Emerald Isle

  • No sign of any type, or any part thereof, shall be erected, painted, posted, placed, replaced or hung in any zoning district except in compliance with Section 6.6.
  • No sign shall be erected so as to obstruct any fire escape, required exit, window, or door opening intended as a means of egress.

  • Signs shall maintain all clearance from electrical conductors in accordance with the Town electrical code and shall not interfere with or impede any other utility equipment and/or lines.
  • Signs and their supporting structures shall maintain clearance and noninterference with all surface and underground facilities and conduits for water, sewage, gas, electricity, or communications equipment or lines and not interfere with natural or artificial drainage, or surface or underground water.
  • Canopies, awnings, or similar sign structures exceeding twenty-five (25) square feet shall be drained to prevent dripping or flowing onto public sidewalks or streets and connected to an approved disposal source.
  • No sign or sign structure shall impair the visibility of intersecting streets and drives; specifically, there shall be no obstruction to vision between a height of three (3) feet and ten (10) feet at the intersection of any connecting streets.
  • Signs that imitate, or in any way approximate, official highway signs, or that are erected in a way that obscures a sign displayed by a public authority are prohibited.
